Privacy Policy

HonestCal (“we”, “us”) is a calorie and macro tracker with AI-assisted estimates, available at honestcal.com. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@honestcal.com.

We only collect what we need to run the app:

• Account — your email address and a password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider).
• Profile — optional details you choose to enter, such as a display name, avatar, sex, height, body weight, and your goal.
• Your logs — the meals you record (name, calories, macros, and an optional small thumbnail image), weight entries, and your daily targets.
• Usage counters — how many AI estimates you’ve used in a given month, so we can apply plan limits.
• Subscription — your plan tier and the identifiers needed to manage billing. We never receive or store your full card details.
• Accountability partner — if you choose to pair with a friend, the display name and avatar you pick for that purpose, and whether you logged at least one meal on a given day, are visible to that one partner. They never see your meals, calories, weight or targets, and you can disconnect at any time.

When you ask for an AI estimate, the text you type or the photo you capture is sent to OpenAI to generate the nutrition estimate, handled subject to OpenAI’s API data-usage terms. We do not use your photos or entries to train our own models.

If you save the result, a small thumbnail of the photo may be stored alongside the meal so you can recognise it later. You can delete any meal — and its thumbnail — at any time.

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate HonestCal. They process data only to provide their service to us:

• OpenAI — generates AI calorie and macro estimates from your text or photos.
• Convex — hosts our database, where your account and logs are stored.
• Stripe — processes subscription payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe.
• Resend — delivers transactional emails such as password resets.
• Vercel — hosts the app and provides privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics.
• Open Food Facts — when you scan a barcode, the barcode number (not your personal data) is sent to look up product nutrition.
• Sentry — receives error and crash reports so we can find and fix bugs; reports contain technical details about failures, not your food logs.

We do not sell your personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising.

Our providers are based primarily in the United States, so your data may be processed there and in other countries. Wherever it’s handled, this policy applies.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data from our systems and request deletion from providers where applicable.

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Most of it you can edit or remove directly in the app; for anything else, email us.

Deleting your account: open More → Account → Delete account in the app to permanently delete your account and associated data. Any active Pro subscription is cancelled at the end of your current billing period. You can also email support@honestcal.com from your account’s email address and we’ll delete it for you. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and hashed passwords. No method of storage or transmission is ever 100% secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

HonestCal isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll let you know in the app or by email.
